There is a nearly annual debate amongst adult lego fans regarding whether LEGO can be art, and is anything currently made worth considering as “art.” Interestingly, Nathan Sawaya’s work is generally considered not art. Anyway, the discussion usually becomes about the more general “what is art?” and so I decided to contribute:
Registration for Brickworld 2011 is open. Brickworld is an adult LEGO convention taking place in Chicago, IL. I’ve never gone before (I went to Brickfest in DC in 04, 05, and 06, and Brickcon in Seattle in 07, 08, and 09) but I think this year, Brickworld is the one for me. It is perfectly timed right after graduation, I’ll drive instead of fly, and potentially stay with my brother, saving on hotel money.
It is June 15-19th. It will be open to the public on Saturday June 18th from 10am to 4pm, and Sunday June 19th from 10am to 3pm. If you live in/near Chicago, put it on your calendar now! Yeah!
There was a “Speeder Bike” contest on a LEGO forum going on, so I built Sirius’s motorcycle from Harry Potter. Everyone else was building science fiction stuff but I figure, hey it’s a flying bike it totally counts.
