evrt:
How are Artists these days supposed to make any money selling Art, when Art supplies cost so ridiculously much? No wonder good painters sell works for thousands! :)
I went to the local Art supply store to buy all of the materials to turn this into a limited run of block prints. Now I definitely have to sell quite a few prints in order to make my money back, just on the supplies! Geesh…
Anyway, hopefully I will get the block print done soon (soon in my time frame is a month). They will be signed and numbered.
This reminds me of an idea I had a while back. I had an idea for a painting, but I don’t have any of the right supplies; it would be very expensive to buy all the stuff. This got me thinking about if there were an artist, who would charge the precise cost of the painting. He wouldn’t make a profit; the price would be the sum of the canvas, the paint used (so, some fraction of the cost of a full tube), and a small fraction of the brushes/easel (I’m not sure how you would calculate the per-painting cost of a brush, without knowing the lifetime of the brush in advance).
If his career takes off, he could add an hourly amount on (starting low, as he’s just still an inexperienced artist) which would increase as an hour of his time becomes more valuable than an hour of some Joe on the street.
All the math to figure out the price would be written directly on the back of the canvas.
